Pyongyang Marathon / Day of the Sun Tour – 10 Days

If you travel alone and don’t book a single room, you will share a double room with another participant of the group.
The visa fee of EUR 50 is not included in the tour fee and has to be paid in cash during the pre-tour meeting in Beijing on the day before the tour.
The Marathon fee is not included in the tour price and must be paid in cash on site.

Day 1 (Saturday, 6th April)
Arrival in Pyongyang, Drive the city, Arch of Triumph (built in 1982 to remember the triumphant return of President Kim Il Sung to Pyongyang from the Korean War), Stroll around Kim Il Sung Square, Dinner at in a local restaurant, Overnight at Sosan Hotel

 


Day 2 (Sunday, 7th April)
Breakfast, Pyongyang Marathon (it’s optional to run the full marathon/half marathon/10km/5km; the marathon running fee – full EUR 150/half EUR 100/10km or 5km EUR 70 – is not included in the tour price and must be paid by each runner on the spot), Drive back to the hotel (time to take a quick shower), Lunch at a local restaurant, Tower of the Juche Idea (built in 1982 on the occasion of the 70th birthday of President Kim Il Sung), Monument to Party Founding (built in 1996 to honour the Workers’ Party of Korea), Dinner at Pyongyang Duck Barbecue Restaurant, Overnight at Sosan Hotel

 


Day 3 (Monday, 8th April)
Breakfast, Reunification Monument (built in 2001 to remember the endeavours of President Kim Il Sung for the Korean Reunification), Drive to the Demilitarised Zone in Panmunjom, Koryo Museum (hosting precious artefacts of the Koryo times), Korean Stamp Shop, Lunch at Tongil Restaurant (you can pre-order Dog Meat Soup for around EUR 5), Kaesong Insam Factory (Ginseng Factory), Drive back to Pyongyang, Dinner at a local restaurant, Overnight at Sosan Hotel

 


Day 4 (Tuesday, 9th April)
Breakfast, Fountain Park, Mansudae Grand Monuments (giant bronze statues of President Kim Il Sung and Leader Kim Jong Il)*, Chollima Statue, Grand People’s Study Hall, Lunch at a local restaurant, Pyongyang Metro ride, City walk, Dinner at a local Restaurant, Overnight at Sosan Hotel

 


Day 5 (Wednesday, 10th April)
Breakfast, Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum (Museum of the Korean War), USS Pueblo (US spy ship captured by the Korean People’s Army in the territorial waters of the DPRK in 1968),Lunch at a local restaurant, 3 Revolutions Exhibition, Pyongyang Film Studios, Dinner and overnight at Sosan Hotel

 


Day 6 (Thursday, 11th April)
Breakfast, Kumsusan Palace of the Sun (Mausoleum of President Kim Il Sung and Leader Kim Jong Il), Revolutionary Martyr’s Cemetery, Lunch at a local restaurant, Drive to Mt. Myohyang (“mountain of mysterious scents”), Dinner and overnight at Chongchon Hotel

 


Day 7 (Friday, 12th April)
Breakfast, Pohyon Temple (Buddhist temple of the 11th century), International Friendship Exhibition (huge underground exhibition of state gifts given to the DPRK leaders by international statesmen and business people), Lunch at Chongchon Hotel, Drive to Pyongyang, Ryongmun Cavern (huge underground cave), Visit to an ostrich farm, Dinner and overnight at Sosan Hotel

 


Day 8 (Saturday, 13th April)
Breakfast, Mangyongdae Native House (Birthplace of President Kim Il Sung), Drive to Nampo on the Korean West Coast, Visit to a cooperative farm, Lunch picnic near Kangso Mineral Water Factory, Kangso Tombs (ancient tombs of the Koguryo times; UNESCO World Heritage Site – outside visit only, the optional inside visit of the tombs requires a fee to be paid on the spot), Overnight at Ryonggang Hot Spa Hotel (with thermal water pools in each room)

 


Day 9 (Sunday, 14th April)
Breakfast, West Sea Barrage (giant dam regulating the water level of the Taedong River), Drive back to Pyongyang, Lunch at a local restaurant, City walk, Dinner at a local restaurant, Overnight at Sosan Hotel

 


Day 10 (Monday, 15th April)
Day of the Sun – Birthday of President Kim Il Sung

*Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery and Mansudae Grand Monuments are no ordinary tourist places anymore, making it increasingly difficult for tourists to visit these sites. It is impossible to know beforehand whether the group will be able to see those places. Therefore, please keep in mind that a visit is intended, however cannot be guaranteed. If visits are impossible, other sites will be included instead.
